چکیده

The (Gromov) hyperbolicity is a topological property of a graph, which has been recently applied in several different contexts, such as the design of routing schemes, network security, computational biology, the analysis of graph algorithms, and the classification of complex networks. Computing the hyperbolicity of a graph can be very time consuming: indeed, the best available algorithm has running-time O(n), which is clearly prohibitive for big graphs. In this paper, we provide a new and more efficient algorithm: although its worst-case complexity is O(n), in practice it is much faster, allowing, for the first time, the computation of the hyperbolicity of graphs with up to 200,000 nodes. We experimentally show that our new algorithm drastically outperforms the best previously available algorithms, by analyzing a big dataset of real-world networks. Finally, we apply the new algorithm to compute the hyperbolicity of random graphs generated with the Erdös-Renyi model, the Chung-Lu model, and the Configuration Model.

An Efficient Genetic Algorithm for Task Scheduling on Heterogeneous Computing Systems Based on TRIZ

An efficient assignment and scheduling of tasks is one of the key elements in effective utilization of heterogeneous multiprocessor systems. The task scheduling problem has been proven to be NP-hard is the reason why we used meta-heuristic methods for finding a suboptimal schedule. In this paper we proposed a new approach using TRIZ (specially 40 inventive principles). The basic idea of thi...

On the Hyperbolicity of Small-World and Tree-Like Random Graphs

Hyperbolicity is a property of a graph that may be viewed as being a “soft” version of a tree, and recent empirical and theoretical work has suggested that many graphs arising in Internet and related data applications have hyperbolic properties. Here, we consider Gromov’s notion of δ-hyperbolicity, and we establish several positive and negative results for small-world and tree-like random graph...

Hyperbolicity, Degeneracy, and Expansion of Random Intersection Graphs

We establish the conditions under which several algorithmically exploitable structural features hold for random intersection graphs, a natural model for many real-world networks where edges correspond to shared attributes. Specifically, we fully characterize the degeneracy of random intersection graphs, and prove that the model asymptotically almost surely produces graphs with hyperbolicity at ...

On the Hyperbolicity of Large-Scale Networks

Through detailed analysis of scores of publicly available data sets corresponding to a wide range of large-scale networks, from communication and road networks to various forms of social networks, we explore a little-studied geometric characteristic of real-life networks, namely their hyperbolicity. In smooth geometry, hyperbolicity captures the notion of negative curvature; within the more abs...
